So The Holiday is….

So the holiday is coming to a close and we will be heading back to school, schedules, deadlines. bedtimes and more! This is always hard for me and a little sad. It is just that we adhere to a strict philosophy during Holiday Seasons and that is eat when you want, sleep when you want, and generally do maintenance jobs instead of strict housecleaning. You can run through the house with scissors, use your outdoor voice inside, eat chocolate for breakfast, drink eggnog out of the carton, sleep till dinner or go to bed by breakfast. You can wear the clothes that you love, matching or not and sometimes clean or not. Two different socks on? Who cares! That bedhead hairdo can be sported for days! We here completely embrace and take literally the meaning of taking a holiday! I love holidays for that. We love that because we support in having the dreaded child rules like anyone else on non holiday days:

-Feet on carpet, no food in hand
-Shoes disallowed
-socks to cover all piggies
-Bed made before school with and including throw pillows
-Throw pillows are decor not for usage
-I am the queen of this castle and you are not
-Do your own laundry unless you are under age 11 or 4 feet 9
-Always say thank  you
-Bed time is bedtime
-Always tell Heavenly Father about your day
-Use coasters at all times
-Use place matts, this isn’t a diner
-Dress like you have parents
-No caffeine for a growing body
-fun is fun but always show respect to those who provide your life style
-Brush teeth and change underwear
-Pick up things you have dropped
-Help your sibling with homework
-Make dinner for the family
-set table…..with place mats and coasters

It makes for a smooth running home and happy children when these rules are followed and enforced. But ah when the holidays come and we let down our guard as a collective clan, it is a nice relief. But then again, the day after Christmas the du-dads that cluttered the home in festive chaos and the green tree that stood guard over wrapped presents and the mounds of goodies are put away, thrown out, or given away. By New Years the house is spotless and the crew is geared up for the regular “routine”. Ah we so await the next holiday already.
Go and make this a wonderful New Years for you and yours!
God bless!
