SOMETIMES I'VE BELIEVED.....

Do you ever miss being 10 years old? You know what I mean, the magic of being 10. You can dance without concern whether it is in a church hallway, a front yard, alone in your room. You really don't know the difference between your friends being boys or girls, they are all just fun to play kick-the-can with. You can comb your hair or not, it really doesn't matter to you and the toothbrush is optional. Stupid is a swear word. S'mores taste heavenly and seem like the grandest of desserts. Grass stains are considered a badge of honor.

Remember how , after a sweaty game of red-rover, everyone flopped down on the summer grass and stared up at the clouds drifting by seeing all kinds of images in the sky? Dinosaurs and ships. Perspiration beading on the forehead of everyone?

Dreaming that you would become a Fire Fighter or Policeman. Or Princess. With the coolest of cars because it was the color purple.

Taking carrots to the horses that lived a few blocks away. Doing hopscotch and pile up on the front lawn. Racing down the street as fast as your legs would go and fighting over who won at the imaginary finish line.

Kool Aide was the drink of choice. The day your mum said yes to the very cheaply made but expensive ice cream from the rarely seen Ice Cream Truck!

Remember sitting out front selling overly sugared lemonade to passing motorist. Rich as kings once the donation cup hit two dollars and eighty cents.

You were going to marry your best guy friend Shawn Burrootia because he was the tallest boy in class. Marriage, at that age, meant holding hands maybe. Also, writing his name all over the pee chee (paper folder) that was part of school supplies.

Life seemed like all it would ever be was catching frogs at the pond, eating dripping ice cream cones, getting 50 Cent allowance and going to the penny candy aisle.

Today, I chose to live my 10 year old self. Forget mortgages, relationship issues, time sensitive agendas, house renovations. I am going to walk out in the cold barefoot and eat candy before breakfast. And maybe just not eat breakfast. Maybe have hot dogs for dinner and the beloved candy "pop rocks" for dessert. (They are little candy pebbles that pop and fizz in your mouth!) I might even put starburst in coca cola and see it explode all over the kitchen. (And then like the 10 year old child, sort of clean it up and hope someone else will finish the job.)

Sometimes I miss being 10. But I love having the ability to make my day look anyway I want......go and do something silly.
